Members of Congress and FCC to Help Recognize
Nation's Most Innovative Education Leaders
Wednesday, June 6 at the Library of Congress
Reception at 5:30 p.m. ET; Awards Ceremony at 6:30p.m. ET Thomas Jefferson Building, 10 First Street, SE Washington, DC - U.S. Representative Ed Markey (D-MA) , Chairman of the Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet, and Federal Communications Commissioner Michael J. Copps are among the key policymakers scheduled to participate in Cable's 2007 Leaders in Learning Awards ceremony, which will recognize some of the most innovative educational leaders in the nation, on Wednesday, June 6th at the Library of Congress. More than 20 Members of Congress and most of NCTA's Board of Directors are expected to participate in the event. This year's winners include teachers who have helped students organize and televise political debates, created a program for 8th-12th grade students to live with, learn from, and teach Panama's Ngobe Bugle Indians, and collaborated with the local community to showcase a student-produced documentary about local U.S. service members and veterans that raised funds to build a local memorial. The winners also include administrators and state and federal policymakers. In Washington, DC for four days of activities celebrating their accomplishments by the cable industry and Cable in the Classroom, the honorees will be the special guests at the June 6th awards gala. Copps Cable's recognition of excellence in education will kick off with Time Warner Cable's National Teacher Awards on June 5th at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Time Warner Cable will recognize 15 projects for creative use of cable television resources. Cable's Leaders in Learning Awards - founded by Cable in the Classroom, the cable industry's education foundation - honors individuals for their leadership in education. Fifteen honorees across five award categories were selected from around the country. Awards are open to any individual who plays a hand in the education of America's youth, from classroom teachers, to community volunteers, to elected officials at all levels of government. | |
